Personal Animatics

This is a work in progress of concept trailer storyboard for a fictional series "Silent Standstill".

The concept for a modern Western series under this name is something I made independently based of a book series I write. Some of its inspirations being The Last Of Us, Borderlands, and Red Dead Redemption. I drew these boards in a more grounded realistic style to emulate what the final show could look like if it were made.

This is my prime example of a comedic short filled with witty timing and subverted expectations.

After leaving her shift early, a girl walk home completely oblivious to her surroundings. Will she notice the obvious dangers around her or narrowly avoid them by luck?

I created this animatic as a part of a passion project but I also used as as an example of the mood whiplash technique in one of my college documentaries. This scene contains foul language and violence so viewer digression is advised.

Note; I apologise for the inconsistent aspect ratio. As this was my first animatic, I wasn't entirely confident with the programs I was using. This is not a problem now, my current animatics stay in the same aspect ratio unless there's a thematic purpose for it to change.

Here is an example of animatic to final product. For this example, I used a scene from my short film Distant Past. The full short can me found on the short film tab of this site.

A number of things had to change from the storyboard to final product. The main reason for this is because due to the production schedule, I couldn't get both actors in the studio at the same time. Therefore the scenes with Connors had to be filmed remotely while Clyde's scenes were filmed in a studio on college campus. I had to make it convincing that the two people were in the same room so I couldn't do many things creatively shot wise, it was mainly just back and forths between the two characters. Regardless, the final clip came out well and out of the people I had showed it to, none of them knew I had filmed them both separately.

Professional Animatics

Communities Against Cancer is a project by the NHS. The aim is to explain how cancer is formed in a way which is easy to understand. My animatic shown above was originally going to be coloured like in the thumbnail but we didn't have the budget.

The premise takes the subject in a more comedic and educational way. It uses the fictional setting of white blood cell soldiers fighting in a way against a cancer that may potentially form.

The Young Inspectors is a project from the NHS where they encourage young people to help out their services through volunteer work. I wanted to make this concept sound more exciting by basing the drawing style off of Max Fleicher and making the film feel like a fun detective noir.

Trigger warning: This short depicts PTSD

At the time of me writing this, Autek are working on a documentary called What's My Anxiety. During the documentary we will show interviews with multiple people talking about their experiences with anxiety. This segment of the documentary is called Sugar Glass and it is about PTSD. The person we interviewed did not want to be on camera so they instead wrote a poem about their experience.

What we eat is related to the NHS communities Against Cancer project. This informative video explains what foods are healthy for the body and how to have a balanced diet.

This video will eventually be fully animated in the style seen in the thumbnail.
